How many packages of the same Christmas DSP do you buy from Stampin’ Up??? Remember – I said SAME DSP. Can you get by with only one package, or do you buy another one or two to have on hand in case it retires?? For me, the number of packages is FIVE. Since each patterned paper has two sheets per package multiplied by the five packages, I have 10 sheets of the same pattern. Those 10 sheets will cut 60 mats for card fronts for a card class. (that may seem like lots, but when you are cutting cards for a Christmas card class, I need those 60 mats.)
But after Christmas card classes are over, you are left with other DSP sheets that you didn’t care for. HOW do you get it gone, when you know that the next catalog is going to have more DSP you want?????
That’s when you turn to generic, all purpose cards — sympathy, get well, thinking of you, birthday, etc.

Take for example the sympathy card above, created with images and dies from the Branching Out bundle. For this card I used DSP for both the top and bottom mats – the brown mat is from the Gathering Together DSP (THAT ONE I had 16 packages of DSP for all of those fall samplers we did!), and the Old Olive DSP mat is from Elegant Pines DSP. Both from the holiday catalog, both limited because one is Christmas, one is fall, but you can’t just pitch it!
Take those holiday papers and get them used and gone by looking at what’s generic and all purpose – and create cards for that purpose.
Still need ideas how to use those holiday DSP packages up??
- GIFT BAGS – no need to purchase gift bags when you have the supplies on hand for medium and small gift bags!!
- SCRAPBOOK PAGES – not all of us are into scrapbooking, but some one who is would be excited to have those large 12 x 12 sheets for page layouts!
- DONATE TO LOCAL SCHOOLS AND CLUBS – this is one of my favorite go tos with retired DSP. The granddaughters’ art teacher loves to have my retired stock for the kids at school, and it’s fun to attend the school art show in the spring and see all of the Stampin’ Up DSP used in their projects!
- SERVICE PROJECTS – our friend Linda makes GOBS of cards for the hospital, our local senior center, and Meals On Wheels. Service projects such as this will help to deplete your DSP stash, and for a great cause as well!
Don’t allow yourself to get overwhelmed with the retired or unused DSP packages. There are ways to use and move it, but you have to think outside the box!

Final Thoughts….
We are heading to St. Louis today to attend our granddaughters’ Christmas program. You would think it would be relaxing and a joy to be in the audience and NOT directing, but that’s not altogether true. It’s actually hard to sit thru these programs and NOT be critical. Moving those kids on and off risers, musical selections, quality of performance, etc. HARD TO SIT THROUGH! But having watched the girls’ past Christmas programs streamed online, it’s going to be ok. Their music teacher’s style is similar to mine so it will be fine.
And if it’s not, I’ll keep my opinions to myself.
Maybe. Until next time, happy crafting, happy stamping, and God Bless.
