Pool Boy and I were up early yesterday morning for our tour to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, located inside of Banff National Park. Both lakes were stunning to see, with such unusual colors from the mineral deposits by glacial runoff. Yet both were unique in their own way.

First – note the names – LAKE Louise and Moraine LAKE. Following royal naming etiquette, the placement of the word LAKE is to be noted. If the lake is named after a royalty/famous person, then Lake comes before the name. If the lake is named after a physical structure, it’s to come after the name. So, Lake Moraine was named due to a pile of rocky debris called a glacial moraine – a physical structure – that creates a natural dam. You can see some of the smaller rock piles behind Pool Boy and I.
Lake Louise was named after Queen Victoria’s fourth daughter, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (and the entire province was named after her as well).

Moraine Lake is only accessible by tours – no cars are allowed entrance. Each tour bus is charged 275 Canadian dollars every time it makes the trip. It’s rustic, with gravel paths, just a small gift shop and bakery – nothing else.
Lake Louise is more commercialized with cement walkways/paths, as well as a large hotel, and accessible to cars. Both stunning views, but I have to say Pool Boy and I preferred Moraine Lake.

Final Thoughts…..
We have a slow start this morning since our tour isn’t until 6:30pm tonight. We are taking a 3 hour wildlife tour and hoping Pool Boy has some sightings of wildlife found in Banff. We did see wildlife in Canmore yesterday morning but pretty sure the coyote wasn’t as exciting as seeing elk or a bear. But you take what you can get!
I’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with some more pictures, but until then, have a great day enjoying our country’s celebration!!!! Until then, God Bless!
