I’m writing this post Sunday night after the luggage is somewhat packed, and we are somewhat organized for an early departure from Canmore, Alberta – just outside Banff National Park.. Monday morning we head out early towards Jasper, on what is considered one of the top beautiful drives in the world. Our destination is the Columbia Icefield Discovery Center, where we will have a guided tour to Athabasca Glacier and the Glacier Skywalk. Afterward, we head south on the Trans Canadian highway towards Calgary, and Tuesday we fly home.

Sunday was an easy day with the highlight being the cruise on Lake Minnewanka. It is the only lake in Banff National Park that has boat tours. It’s the longest and deepest lake in Banff, and just look at the beautiful color of the water! Minnewanka translates “Spirited Waters”, and it was the perfect way to end our time in this area – relaxing and restful. At one point the captain completely turned off the motors and we set several minutes in complete silence other than the water gently lapping the sides of the boat. At that point we were close to 20 miles away from highways, towns, and any noise. I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember when we experienced complete silence like that.
