So, yesterday I decided to make a chocolate zucchini cake, trying to use up some extra zucchini our son brought us from his garden. No matter how well you follow the directions, carefully measure the ingredients, and use good quality products, that cake is gonna come out as black and hard as a hockey puck if you miss the bake button on the oven and hit broil instead!
Oh my gosh, the smell and the charred cake mess. Believe me when I say burnt chocolate does not smell delicious! So, to make sure my oven wasn’t the culprit with elements going out and to prove that I can make an edible chocolate zucchini cake, first thing this morning I made a second one (after destroying the evidence of the 1st!) and I’m happy to report all is well! Not a machine error at all, just an operator error by me.
Last night on our group FB page – Stamp. Ink. Paper – Creating with Pam and Lola – we played with the new Hot Foil System. Now after the mess I created with the 1st cake I questioned pulling this new product out! But play we did, and I really like this product! While Pam is down for a while with her injury. Chris Howe stepped in to help out and we had fun creating and sharing this new product with our crafting friends.

My pictures aren’t the best, but I used silver foil with Berry Burst and the Garden Silhouette Hot Foil Die to create the overall floral pattern on the left card. BUT I was equally pleased using the negative foil scrap to create the card on the right!!! I love that I can get two cards from this one die!!!

Again I used the Silver foil on Secret Sea to create these beauties. I had watched a video from Terri Gaines showing how to go about using the negative, so I suggest you check her out on YouTube so you see her results as well.

The card above is one that Chris shared using the Botanical Glow Hot Foil Die on a piece from Velvet Meadows. Then, she took the DSP and cut into 1 inch squares for using with the Shadow Block technique. The velvet DSP took the foil very well, and with the Shadow Block technique, you can rotate the pattern from vertical to horizontal, as well as flipping the blocks so the shadow is on the top versus the bottom! This is a fun technique and you can adjust the measurements and use larger squares too.
I’ll pop back on tomorrow to show you the other cards that Chris shared last night. You’ll be happy to know that chocolate zucchini cake #2 is out of the oven and looks great so nice thing to know my oven is still working. But that means the operator here screwed up! Find some time to create, to craft, and to do whatever brings you joy, and God Bless!
