They say that opposites attract, and in many ways that holds true for Pool Boy and me. I need organization and structure in my life, and Pool Boy just seems to go with the flow. When we were first married, he could drop everything and on the spur of the moment decide “let’s go home this weekend and see the folks”, and all I could think about was needing to geent the laundry done, pack clothes, arrange everything to pack….. My mental list was endless, and Jim could have grabbed some jeans and a shirt and be out the door in less than 10 min. He rolled with spontaneity, and the only think I had in common with spontaneity were the vowels from my name.
Somewhere in our 43 years, we’ve both adjusted. He started giving me about 48 hours notice about running to the city to see friends or taking a trip to relatives. And I’ve adjusted to packing a suitcase in less than 30 minutes and being able to move and adjust calendar dates accordingly. It’s a compromise that works for us.
So today, while we needed to make a trip to visit his mom and a meeting that we’ve rescheduled for the third time, we ended up cancelling. I’ve taken a day I didn’t think I would have open and scheduled my plans for most every 15 min. increment, and he’s kicking back and going with the flow. That’s how we roll.
