May is a busy month with the end of school, Mother’s Day celebrations, and graduation for many.
Teachers and students look forward to several weeks away to relax and rejuvenate, parents are scrambling trying to figure out summer child care, high school graduates are looking for summer job opportunities and the excitement of college, and the college graduates are searching for full time jobs where they truly adjust into “adulthood”. I remember when our daughter graduated from the University of Missouri – she was so ready to move forward in life UNTIL reality fully smacked her in the face – there would be NO MORE SEMESTER BREAKS. No more CHRISTMAS VACATIONS. No more SPRING BREAKS. No more SUMMERS OFF. Welcome to adulthood with all of its bills, independence, and 40+ hour weeks!!!
Playing With Sit Stay Relax – A Hostess Stamp Set
I’ve been pairing Orchid Oasis with other new In Colors, but it’s time to branch out and combine it with our color collection. Usually we can take our leads from the DSP packages as to what colors work well together. However, I was asked to demonstrate this stamping technique with the layers of mats and that needed to be solid colors versus DSP patterns. Thankfully Stampin’ Up provides us with some beginning combinations to springboard with. In the picture below you will see combinations they recommend with Orchid Oasis. I went with the first combo but it was too much for me. Instead, I used white as a neutral with two of the colors – in this instance, Flirty Flamingo and Orchid Oasis. My second example is Coastal Cabana and Orchid Oasis with white. Which do you prefer????
Mat Measurements:
Listed below are the mat measurements to create a card with the stamped layering technique. I prefer 1/8 inch mats versus the 1/4 inch but this technique will need the full 1/4 inch difference to cover up the area where the image doesn’t stamp. If you choose to use only one layer of mats, be sure to cut accordingly.
- Card base is 8 1/2 by 5 1/2, scored and folded at 4 1/4.
- Basic white mat – 5 3/8 by 4 1/8
- Flirty Flamingo mat – 5 1/4 by 4
- Orchid Oasis mat – 3 1/8 by 4 3/8
- Basic white mat – 3 by 4 1/4
- Flirty Flamingo – 2 7/8 by 4 1/8

Final Thoughts…
I had to do some flipping this week with my schedule so I was available to play for the funeral service of one of church family members. Luckily my school allowed me the flexibility to shift days accordingly so I’m heading to school for day #7 in my count down. The end is quickly approaching and I’m on the end of the OTHER part of adulthood – fully retired. I’m also scrambling in my mind with things I want to do to keep active and busy. Thank goodness for my connection with Stampin’ Up to help me fill the time ahead. I can only clean so much – that is a part of ADULTHOOD I never cared for! Until next time, keep stamping, keep crafting, and God Bless!
