Cute As The Bee WITHOUT The Bee!

Remember those 45 RPM records from back in the 60’s and 70’s??? The ones that we played over and over and over, and you could stack 5-6 on your stereo so you had continous music for like 15 minutes before you had to start them over??? Dang, we couldn’t wait to go to the store after the top 40 hits for the week came out to buy new records, and they were relatively cheap! It was so disappointing to get to the store after the records had been picked over!

I was the one who got bored with the hit song side – let’s call that side A – and turned them over to hear the other side – side B – , only to like that song better than the A side!!! If you were lucky the B side song also took off and you had double hits on one record.

I’m still the B side more times than not in papercrafting. As a prime example, take the Cute As Can Bee DSP for today’s card.

I love the colors of Petunia Pop, Old Olive, Pool Party. and Bubble Bath but NOT the sides with the bees!!! Not a problem though, because Stampin’ Up designs their papers in such a way that you have a fairly non-descript pattern on one side – we will call that side B!

You wouldn’t know that these papers are covered in cute bumble bees, would you??? Because the B side of the papers are usually non-descript and not as catchy to the eye like the side A’s with the bumble bees! AND I paired it with the cute Flip Flaps Stampin’ Up purchased from the CTMH move!

Throw in some flower dies from Impressions Abloom and you have a fun birthday card for anyone, even if they dislike bees!

Final Thoughts….

We have a tendency to select our DSP favorites by focusing on the more showy patterns, but sometimes the best patterns are on the reverse side. Don’t judge the paper on first glance, but study it! You may be pleasantly surprised!

Prime example – back in 1970 The Osmond Brothers cut a record called “One Bad Apple” on a 45 record with “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” on the flip side. Both songs made it to the top 10! Any guess which was my favorite side????
