Now there’s a word for you – spiral or spiraling. I think most of us think of springs, slinky toys, and notebooks when you hear that word, but for educators it’s a learning technique we build into our lesson plans – from basic knowledge that we reinforce over and over that leads to more detailed, more involved levels of instruction. Yep, we are reviewing the whole Methods Of Teaching class in a couple of paragraphs!
That sounds heavy, but basically you keep reviewing until the skill is learned or mastered the you move forward. Here’s an example – we had a new hymn at church a couple of weeks ago, and it had a tricky tune. I shared with our minister that we need to repeat the hymn 2-3 more times “in the next couple of months” to lock that melody down or we won’t get it. As a former elementary teacher he knew exactly what I was talking about – spiraling back to reinforce.
I use this skill lots in my paper crafting, by repeating fun folds, techniques, etc. Remember the little easel bug cards from last week???? By the time I was finished I had 4 different cards all using the same concept. I could cut those cards in my sleep! So today’s card is one I used in my Winter Card Class using a fun fold from the past couple of weeks.

The card on the left was one for this week’s card class, the one on the right was from a couple of weeks ago. Same card idea!!! The front mats have different measurements, but same idea! FYI – the one from our Winter Card Class uses DSP from the Elegant Pine Snowflakes package, as well as stamps from Textured Notes and Greenery Lane. The color combo is Smoky Slate and Shaded Spruce.

Disregard the size difference of the images – different angles of photographing the cards. Several of the gals at class mentioned they had seen this fun fold on one of my FB lives recently or seen the bug post. See? Spiraling!!
So in case you missed it, or you can’t quite remember how to add the inside of the card, here is the bug PDF one more time. Keep in mind, it’s the BUG CARD pictured in the PDF, but it works for the beautiful Shaded Spruce card as well.

If you are not making copies of tutorial pdf’s you are going to keep reinventing the craft wheel without moving forward. Kind of like the hamster!

Our Valentine Tutorial is still available with an online purchase of $50 or more, and it includes measurements and directions for NINE cards, FIVE of which are fun folds!!!! I showed these cards at class this week and several were interested in the variety of cards included. Maybe you don’t care for the DSP or the dies, BUT these card measurements are ones you can use over and over for future crafting!!! Turn the layouts into birthday card ideas, sympathy ideas, etc.
To receive this tutorial, simply click on the link below to my online store and place an order of $50 or more. I’ll email the tutorial the same day the order is placed!

So the next time you are stymied with figuring a card layout – turn to your tutorial pdfs!!! Use them to push you forward in your paper crafting. The more different layouts you use, the more fun folds you use, the more your confidence will build and grow.
And you might go buy a slinky to keep on hand at your craft table for times you need a fidget. That spiral thing comes in handy too! Until next time, stay safe and warm these next few days, keep an eye on the weather in your area, and God Bless!
