Cherry pie is one of my absolute favorites when it comes to pie. My mom’s cherry pie was the best – not too tart, not too sweet, NOT cherry pie filling either!!! She would thicken the juices with tapioca and when she put the crust on top it was always sprinkled with extra sugar. If you were lucky there would be an extra piece the next morning and you could convince her it was fine for breakfast! Surely it would be better for you than a cherry pop tart??????
We have a lady at our church who is quite the pie maker, and every week during our Lent soup suppers she brings two cherry pies that taste so much like my mom’s. I think she uses lard in her crusts, and she’s always commenting she’s not sure if she got enough sugar on the cherries – something my mom would say as well. And every week, I suggest she needs to perfect the recipe by practicing abit more, and having me be the taste tester! Pool Boy prefers a scoop of vanilla icecream with his slice, but I’m fine with just pie itself. Yum!
Cherries For A Birthday Stamping Sister!!!
One of my stamping friends has a birthday the same day as mine, so I needed to make a card to drop by her work place. To keep with the theme of the week, I turned to the annual catalog to select the needed products. The Sweetest Cherries stamp set was on my list today, and I was thinking about pairing with Lemon Lime Twist. So, turning to the DSP section I found this Lemon Lime Twist pattern in the Masterfully Made DSP, and of course I had to pair it with Real Red for the cherries!!!! I wanted to add texture so I ran the DSP through the Painted Texture Embossing Folder. To embellish I selected the Real Red ribbon from the Real Red/Burlap Ribbon Combo pack, and the gems came from the Tinsel Gems-Four Pack.
The Deckled Rectangles dies were used for the front label, and I used the Cherry Builder Punch to add dimension to the card front. Inks chosen for stamping included Real Red, Lemon Lime Twist, and Basic Black. DONE!!! And EVERYTHING came from the annual catalog!!!!
Final Thoughts….
I hope you are enjoying the return to the annual catalog this week! There are so many goodies available, and my favorite thing about Stampin’ Up’s products is the coordination! None of the items used came in a suite, BUT I know that everything will match color-wise because they coordinate all colors, dsps, etc. That’s the big problem with a big box store – you select a paper, then may not have the best ink to match, or you can’t find a ribbon that is the right shade, etc. I just keep with my Stampin’ Up products – I know they are going to work together when it comes to coordination.
My daughter calls me a Stampin’ Up snob because I just use Stampin’ Up products. And, maybe I am! Then again, you could probably say I’m a cherry pie snob as well, since I don’t like that cherry pie filling. Why mess with a good thing????
Until next time, have a great day doing whatever makes you happy, find some time to craft and create, and God Bless!
