Using Detailed Dies To Create Embossed Images!

Good morning everyone!!! This is going to be a quick post because we are in “Papa and Nana” mode with daycare closed for Martin Luther King Day. My hope is to have this up and published before they arrive to spend the day with us. That means no crafting happening today either. My afternoon FB LIVE probably won’t happen either unless I can share with you early evening. We will just play it by ear!!

I wanted to share a quick technique I shared with my Tech classes earlier this month, and it’s a total game changer that extends the use of your detailed dies. For the card below I turned to the branch die in the Natural Symphony bundle. Specifically, the branch that has detailed veins in the leaves.

This die is considered a “stand alone” die in the package because there is no corresponding stamped image included in the stamp set. If you look closely at the picture above, you will see that the image is embossed into the Soft Sea Foam mat! This is a super easy way to extend your use of your dies!!!

Here’s a close up of the inside of the card where I used the same technique on the white mat. I plan to also emboss the image on the envelope flap too.

How do you do this??? Easy —- IF you have a silicone craft sheet!!! I suggest to my new stampers that they purchase this so they have a clean surface for adding their adhesives to the back of their mats, dies, punches, etc. BUT this little mat – I should say CHEAP little mat since it costs less than $7 – is what turns the die cut from cutting the paper to embossing.

I will share this on my FB LIVE sometime this week, but if you want to give it a try, build your cutting sandwich like this:

• Start with the #1 plate – the thick board – for your die cutting machine.
• REMOVE the #2 plate – the thin board – and set off to the side. This is NOT used.
• Place one of the acrylic plates on top of the thick board
• place THE SILICONE CRAFT SHEET on top of the acrylic plate
• Next layer is the card stock, followed with the die cut with the cutting edge down
• Final layer is the 2nd acrylic plate.

Run this one time thru your machine – DO NOT go back and forth because you just want an embossed image!!. You probably will think nothing is happening! After running through 1 time, carefully lift the top acrylic plate. Did it emboss????? If you follow my sandwich above I bet it did!

FYI – if you have a bigshot with the old platform, I would suggest you try this without any of the tabs. My machine is the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine, so if you have it from Stampin’ Up this sandwich should give you the same results.

So for less than $7 you can extend the use of your dies, for more variety and versatility!!! How’s that for stretching our crafting budget???
