After three flights we arrived safely in Calgary, Alberta, and I was so relieved to see the luggage pop up at baggage claim. I stress when our suitcase has to change from one flight to another, so with TWO changes prior to kiosk.
Did you know that Calgary has a ginormous rodeo known as the Calgary Stampede??? I certainly didn’t, and we had flights with multiple people heading to Calgary. They expect over 1.5 million people to attend, and here we were flying right into the thick of it. Everything continued to work out fine though with our hotel and car rental reservations, and lucky for us we left Calgary yesterday BEFORE the parade and headed to Canmore, Alberta.
Every business jumps on the Stampede covered band wagon when it comes to the festivities. Restaurants and hotels are decorated with western motifs, and everybody is wearing their cowboy hats as well. The Stampede continues until July 12, so lucky for us we will be flying out on July 7 so should miss the travelers attending the .festivities.

First Day In Canmore, Alberta
Pool Boy and I had an easy drive to Canmore and our resort for our vacation. We ran into town for an early dinner of pizza, then it was an early night since this morning was an early tour. Our tour bus left Canmore about 7:30am and headed into Banff, with destinations for Lakes Louise and Moraine. These are suppose to be the jewels of Banff but are only accessible by tours. I’ll post pictures tomorrow of our views.
But I’ll leave you with a couple of scenic photos taken on our way for dinner. Can you imagine living with these views all the time?
