We had our first snow of the season this weekend and if the old wive’s tale is right that means we should have 25 snowfalls this winter. Hmmm – first thing, I don’t like the whole “old wive’s tale” thing. Let’s make it the “old man’s tale” instead! It sounds like something a guy would say anyways. Second, after planting the daffodils – all 100 of them – last week and seeing how incredibly dry the garden bed was, we NEED that many of snows to try and regain some moisture. As Pool Boy was using his drill and auger for the holes, it was just like powder. SO dry.
This week we are going to focus on things we can do to help whittle our winter DSP down. The Spring mini is loaded with beautiful florals and fun patterns, and once the catalog goes live we are going to want to switch over, but we need to get our winter DSP under control first. Today’s card is a beautiful birthday card for winter, AND almost everything came from the Holiday mini catalog which is going out!!!!
Turning To The Joy Of Christmas Suite Once More But NOT For Christmas!
I decided to pull out the Joyful Secialty DSP package, and the first one I chose was the beautiful Shaded Spruce/Gold Foil pattern. Next, I pulled out my trusty Holiday mini to see the samples created by Stampin’ Up. If you turn to page 31 you can see what I used as a starting point for today’s card. I layered a mat of the Shaded Spruce pattern on top of a gold foil mat, then adhere both to a Basic White card base. By pulling the leafed pattern from the package I added a small mat of DSP without cutting it the full width of the card mats – this gives a different look. The beautiful holly leaf label die was cut from another pattern in the DSP package, then I layered a white label with the greeting on top. Everything is anchored to the card front with the white herringbone ribbon, and by tucking in pine boughs and leaves cut out of vellum, I was able to subdue the holly leaves abit.
My stamped greetings were also from the Holiday mini catalog! The pine branch is obviously from the Christmas Classics stamp set, the greeting on the front from the Modern Garden stamp set, and the verse for the inside of the card was from the Translucent Florals stamp set. And somehow, I ended up with TWO of the Translucent Florals bundle!!!! No matter how hard I try, I always have duplicates, and I would best many of you do as well!!!
The Beautiful Bethlehem Nativity Shadowbox Class!
I posted a project on my FB page to see if there was interest in the class, and in just a few hours we were totally full. Our shadowboxes are ordered and shipped, we have canvassed multiple Dollar Trees for battery operated lights, and our first class is scheduled already, and two more to be scheduled.
HOWEVER, I’ve had several papercrafting friends reach out asking if I can provide a tutorial or video sharing how to recreate – and special thanks to Tena Levett for helping me figure out the lighting!!! – and I will be doing a private FB LIVE group with video and emailed tutorial! If you are interested, please post in the comments below, OR email me at flickoftherist@gmail.com for details.
FYI – that is NOT somebody’s head behind the shadowbox in the picture. That is a huge blue goose that Pool Boy loves, and he is smack dab in the middle of our livingroom table! He has survived Nora’s and Fiona’s inquisitive fingers as they toddled around the table, but pretty sure he will not survive baby Cal’s reach. He’s already had the tailfeathers but thankfully no damage. Thinking that goose may have to be mounted to the wall for a couple of years until Cal is a bit older!
Check back in on Tuesday to see another way to use our winter DSP, and just a reminder that our IN PERSON / ONLINE Winter Card Class will be on Thursday, Dec. 7. Signups continue through Dec. 2nd!!! Have a wonderful day, enjoy some time crafting, and God Bless!!!!
