Good morning everyone, and welcome to Monday!!! We had a busy weekend with the whole family gathered together for our daughter’s Bake A Thon which always happens the first weekend of deer season. Originally I was scheduled to be holding a retreat – so gone from home and NOT seeing the mess! – at our church, but due to the facilities needed for funerals, our retreat is this coming weekend in stead. Oh, the baking they did. Bread loaves, pies, cookies, and candy. And afterwards, the kids pulled out and carried the Christmas tree boxes, and by the end of the day 4 were standing with lights, two of which were totally decorated.
So mayhem?? YES! Clutter everywhere?? YES! But a productive day??? YES!! Pictures will follow at the end.
Tena’s Thanksgiving Card With Half Inch Strips!
I received this card a couple of weeks ago from our friend Tena, and I love how she used those 1/2 inch strips of the Splendid Autumn DSP. This paper is beautiful, but you have so many remaining pieces paper left over when you cut your mats down to 4 by 5 1/4 inches. Do you throw them away????
Tena put them to good use by glueing them to a mat, altering the layout and angle for variety. After she covered the mat with strips, she trimmed the edges down, then ran it through an embossing folder to help “lock” the edges in place.
With such a busy background, Tena did a quick reversal on the leaf. Most of us would use the DSP for the leaf die cut, then add a solid color for the veins die cut. Instead, she flipped these and I love how well the veins popped on the leaf!! Don’t let those strips of DSP go to waste! Take a good look at Tena’s card above, and try creating one yourself!
Bake A Thon Day With The Grands!
This year both girls were excited to be a part of the bake a thon, and Megan and her friend Abby gave them fun jobs as they learned simple baking tips. Megan has always been wonderful about getting her girls involved with cooking, and living in St. Louis they’ve had the chance to attend kid cooking classes for a fun activity.
Final Thoughts…..
So, the day didn’t go as I planned, and yet we had a great time gathered together. Yesterday I spent time reclaiming our house, putting away, etc. Today’s focus is to keep decorating trees, type on the retreat tutorials, and get ready to share a cause that is close to my heart and will allow you to be part of – The Coats For Kids program that is sponsored by our church. Come back tomorrow to see how you can help us purchase coats for our area children in need. Until then, have a great day, find time to craft and create, and God Bless!!!
