We are off for St. Louis to see our granddaughter’s 3rd grade opera “Smelly Socks” and their beautiful artwork. I say we because at this moment Pool Boy is planning to go. He’s been under the weather between allergies and lack of sleep, so plans may well change by the time we need to hit the road. I’m sure you know the feelings he has – hates to disappoint Nora and Fi, but not looking forward to the drive either. We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Let’s pray he feels better soon!
Last Night’s Card From Our Group FB LIVE!
My sister asked me for a 50th anniversary card, so I decided it would be the focus of my FB LIVE last night. Even with the variety of stamps that Stampin’ Up offers. sometimes I still need to merge different stamp sets together to help me with my cards. Last night I used three different sets – Everlasting Beauty from the annual catalog, Lifetime Of Love from the mini catalog, and Classic Letters from the online exclusives! How’s that for using ALL available ordering options???
To help with the “50th Anniversary” theme of gold, I used gold embossing powder for the numbers, floral image, and greeting. By cutting a second floral image that I stamped in black, I had a mask that I could use to cover up the images while I added the colors of the flowers and leaves with sponge daubers.
Petal Pink and a touch of Flirty Flamingo brought the roses to life, and the leaves were Soft Sea Foam and a touch of Old Olive. The gold leaf vine came from a die in the Lifetime Of Love set, and I added the basic white deckled circle die behind to anchor everything together!
Final Thoughts…..
I’m excited to be with the girls tonight as they share their talents at the Fine Arts Night. My life has been centered around the fine arts – as a music teacher for over 35 years, a church organist for 50 years, my tole painting and now my paper crafting. Even though Pool Boy doesn’t play an instrument, he has a beautiful tenor voice and our long drives call for singing with the radio.
Megan was in multiple school and community theatre productions, and studied piano and voice privately from kindergarten through her senior year. She’s making it a goal to share the arts with her girls through their opportunities in the city, Evan also took piano lessons and was in school productions, but he leaned more towards art and graphic arts throughout his school years, and continues to play guitar for his son Cal. When time allows his art talents show up in his woorworking creations.
I once heard the following phrase:
“If you take ART from the EARTH, all you are left with is E-H!”
It’s the arts that adds beauty to our lives – through listening, participating, seeing, experiencing, and enjoying. I’m so thankful my parents paid for those piano lessons with Mrs. Weber for $2 each week. Not a bad return on their investment.
Here’s hoping your life is enriched by the arts as well. Until next time – which will probably be Friday since I’ll be traveling home tomorrow morning – God Bless!!!
