Happy Labor Day everyone!!! Kind of the last hurrah for the summer, isn’t it? I’ve always associated Labor Day with the beginning of the school year – first as a student, then later as a teacher. But Pool Boy always associated Labor Day with the beginning of hunting season! He and his father loved to hunt, so they looked forward to Labor Day and turtle dove hunting. Sitting in a cut corn field where it’s dusty, hot, watching the doves fly in and out for food with a black lab sitting by their side ever so intently watching to retrieve. They loved it.
And when Evan was just a toddler – maybe 2 or 3 at the most – they would throw a camoflage t-shirt on him and away they’d go! Now mind you, the t-shirt was one of theirs, so here’s this little boy trying to walk and having his shirt tail catch on a corn stob. I so wish we had a picture of that.

Final Thoughts….
We are so lucky now living in the time of cell phones with cameras – many taking better pictures than our actual cameras!!! Years ago when Evan was toddling around with the camo shirt during turtle dove season they didn’t have a phone to take a picture. There is nothing to show this little boy getting the hem of his shirt caught on the cut corn stalk and unable to move. All we have are the memories, and then the tales to share with Evan. Evan was just 4 years old when the three went out for their last turtle dove hunt. Later that month, Jim’s dad passed away. His memories of his Papa are from the tales and stories we shared with him over the years.
Thank goodness for cell phones with cameras now – so we have the pictures to go with the memories.
God Bless!

I agree that pictures are nice to have, but there’s nothing better than hearing the stories of things long ago and making your own pictures in your mind.
You are right my friend!!!! Sending hugs!!!
