We’ve been playing with background stamps this week in different ways, but today is really outside of the box! I paired two different backgrounds stamps – Hand-Drawn Dots and Layered Stripes which are both from the new mini catalog – along with Bermuda Bay and Night Of Navy inks. I then took the combined stamped piece – which I have to say isn’t at all pretty! – and die cut as many numbers as I possibly could using the Alphabet Ala-mode die set. Look at what we came up with!!! For once, you have to keep going to see the final card!!!!
First Layer – Kind Of “Meh”!
Hand-Drawn Dots is not a stamp I would have picked, but it was included in our swag bag at the On-Stage event in Arlington. I would much rather have precisely spaced and sized dots – kind of like those dotted swiss dresses our mothers made us wear in the 60’s!!! LOL!!!
2nd Layer – Looking More Interesting!
Now I have to say I do like the Layered Stripe background stamp better for masculine cards. And I like the addition of Bermuda Bay ink to tone down those Night Of Navy dots on the Coastal Cabana card stock – not bad but sure not pretty!
Have Die Cut Machine – Will Cut!
After stamping the both backgrounds, I then took the Alphabet Ala-Mode die set WHICH INCLUDES the NUMBERS! – and ran as many numbers as possible! Those background stamps are still there BUT not in the expected and anticipated way! We will use the numbers to create the background instead!
Finally The Card!!!!
I simply took the number pile and began arranging them on the Coastal Cabana mat with some hanging over the edges. Once I had them spread out, I began glueing them in place with tombow glue. When dried I took my paper snips and trimmed off the access on the sides, and then if needed I added a few of these snipped pieces along the edge to fill in gaps! What a fun card and not at all what you would expect with background stamps, right???
Final Thoughts….
Try thinking outside the box with background stamps you have in your stamping arsenal! The wood grain one would work, and I can also see the stacked stone one as a possibility with this layered technique. Don’t have any background stamps??? Simply take large stamps you have and layer them with color to add interest, then die cut them to create a fun background! Until tomorrow, keep stamping, keep crafting, and God Bless!!!
