Happy Saturday AND Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone!!! Some people look forward to this weekend as the last hurrah of summer, planning short trips, camping, or getting a few outside projects completed at home. I dread Labor Day weekend with all of the ragweed, the pollen, and the hay fever issues I heading my way. But Pool Boy loves Labor Day weekend because it was like an unofficial holiday for hunters – the opening of dove season. Friday night after Jim got home from work we would take off for his home town so he and his dad could scope out fields, and get up early for dove hunting. Morning and late afternoon sitting in a cornfield watching the doves fly in to feed – right up their alley!!
Evan probably wasn’t even three when he started going along. They’d throw the smallest camoflage t-shirt they could find on him (probably an adult L!), give him one of their camo hats and away they went. He rarely travelled far from them because of his clothing – toddler trying to walk in an adult t-shirt down to his feet, and the shirt getting caught on a corn stalk stub or brushy undergrowth, stuck. Better than a baby-sitter!! Those were his first hunting encounters, and in another year or two Evan will be introducing Cal, then later baby boy #2, to hunting as well. Three generations enjoying the same pasttime – grandfather, dad, and son.
Pam’s Card – Spotlight On Nature!
Pam shared this card earlier in the week on our group FB LIVE. Isn’t it beautiful?!?!? Spotlight On Nature was the first stamp bundle I bought when the Annual catalog went live, and it’s still one of my favorites. The stamped images are stunning, then you throw in those dies as well – SO MANY cards and project possibilities with them!!! Can you see the embossing folder as well?? She used the Dotted Circles embossing folder with a piece of DSP from the Unbound Beauty package. Such a gorgeous card and very easy to reproduce – simply let Stampin’ Up’s products do the job!
Final Thoughts…..
This is one of my favorite pictures of Jim, his dad, and Evan. I would say it was taken in April during spring turkey season since they are wearing long sleeve shirts, Evan is in his adorable over-alls, and the grass is beginning to green. Three generations of Rist men together.
But with happy memories, also sad ones are there as well. Less than a couple of years after this picture was taken Jim’s dad passed away. They had Labor Day season for dove hunting memories, then by end of September Ronnie was gone. Evan hasn’t many memories of his Grandpa Ronnie other than the pictures and stories that he has heard over the years. And even though he was small, I’m thankful they had some times to hunt together and create those memories to tell him about.
And it must be a red-neck thing, but our photo albums are full of kill pictures with the kids!!! LOL!!! Dead deer, pheasant, dove, turkey – anyone else warped like us??? Until next time, have a wonderful day, find time to create and play, make some wonderful memories, and God Bless!
