This past weekend I was designing our next card class and I had a request for a July 4th – Independence Day – card. Well, that causes you to stop and think abit because we have no stamp set that is made up of fireworks, bottle rockets, sparklers, etc. Zippo! As a demo we try to stay with current products so that we are not demonstrating something that is unavailable for our customers to purchase, so this may present some difficulty!
So what do you do in this situation???? I am a firm believer in keeping a catalog at my work desk for this reason. I started thumbing through the pages looking for greetings, stamps, dies that would work. They are THERE, you just have to search and think outside the Stampin’ Up box, so to speak! And while you are at it, check out Clearance Rack items and kits from our Kit Line – as long as they are in stock, we can use them!
So this week we are on a Patriotic Kick – each day I will share a perfect red/white/blue creation that is also current and we will see how I do!
Using The Bright And Beautiful Suite For July 4th!
The color scheme is obviously easy here – red, white, and blue. BUT Stampin’ Up does give us some variety between Blueberry Bushel, Night Of Navy, and Misty Moonlight. Today’s card pairs Real Red with Blueberry Bushel for a bright look! And using the Beautiful Balloons and the Circle Sayings stamp sets I had the greetings, banner, and confetti to add to the card. For the “July 4th”, I went to the online exclusive stamp set Classic Letters, the word July came from the Days To Remember stamp set, and I embossed the whole white mat – with 1/2 inch strips attached first – with a folder from the online exclusive Basic 3D Embossing Folder set. Every item current and available!
Today’s Lesson – Work With What You Have!
I’m not encouraging you to go out and buy FOUR stamp sets for this one card, BUT look at what you have already in your stamping supplies! Stampin’ Up has offered many alphabet and numbered stampsets over the years and you may have one. You may not have the Beautiful Balloons stamp set BUT you may have another birthday set that would work. YOU are not limited to using current product, so think outside the box, and you CAN create Independence Day cards as well!!!
Final Thoughts…
