Good Morning and Happy Birthday America!!!! Independence Day has always been one of my favorite holidays – food, family, enjoying the outside, and our patriotic colors of Red, White, and Blue! As an elementary music teacher I ALWAYS made sure my students knew the patriotic songs of our country – from the National Anthem all the way through to modern ones such as God Bless The USA. I was very diversified in my music choices through the year helping my students appreciate the music from other cultures and heritages, but they also knew their own! Over the years I had to upgrade new music textbooks and you would be amazed how many companies would work so very hard to be diversified in their musical selections, they would totally forget our American patriotic songs!!! Needless to say, those companies never made the textbook cut for me.

Several years ago we travelled to Boston for the 4th Of July Celebration with the Boston Pops Orchestra. That truly was the perfect iconic celebration of our country from the fireworks, the music, the historical heritage – it was without a doubt a wonderful item to mark off the bucket list. So, today, as you spend time celebrating this great summer occasion, have Alexa play some patriotic songs. Take a few minutes and read up on Irving Berlin and his iconic God Bless America, or google Francis Scott Key and our National Anthem. Find out where that flag that flew over Fort McHenry ended up and where you can actually view it. We certainly are not a perfect country, and we have many things that needs to be addressed, but we can celebrate how far we have come. God Bless!
