Hey everyone!!! Today’s post is all about foods!!! It is always an adventure when you travel to another country and experience the cuisine in a culture different from ours. Some things are similar, some are not. Some times you enjoy the experience, some times you don’t. Sometimes you simply have to be brave and go for it!!! I wanted to share some of the things we’ve experienced this week.
The pool area close to our building has this wonderful outdoor restaurant opened for breakfast and lunch. Many of the restaurants are buffets, and you have the traditional dishes – and no, I’m not talking tacos, enchiladas, burritos, etc. I’m talking mussels and shrimp with rice, octopus, chicken with mole sauce, etc. This restaurant serves this delicious layered cake, with chocolate ganache, mousse, a white chocolate cream layer, and with a touch of cinnamon!!!
How about pork tamales and a delicious omelet for breakfast???? Both were equally delicious, but not a combination you expect!!! Note the blackish leaf in the top left corner of the photo. This was what the tamale was wrapped in! Sorry, they were both really good so I started eating before taking a picture.
How can you come to Mexico and not have a frozen margarita? It was delicious with the salt around the rim. However, earlier in the week I had a strawberry margarita with salt and that one also had some kind of pepper mixed in with the salt, cause gosh the lips burned. I don’t think about margaritas and spicy salt going together, but it certainly did.
Check out the purple bun here! It was a delicious burger and there was nothing other than food coloring to create this “Orchid Oasis” colored bun! This restaurant makes all of their breads and buns so for fun they add colors to their dough before baking. There was no taste difference so if it would bother you just close your eyes – you would never know it was purple! Makes for colorful sandwiches though!
So one of the ladies who we joined for dinner ordered an appetizer that was a sample of mexican meats and such. We simply passed the plates so everyone could take a taste of what they wanted. There was – starting at the top of the picture and going clockwise- some marinated chicken, a white cheese, a blue corn cheese quesadilla, a spicy pork, another blue tortilla with pickled radish, skirt steak, and the chorizo sausages are about at the 10 on a clock. Let’s move to the bowls in the center though. Left bowl is the traditional quacamole, but guess what’s in the right bowl???? There are the fried ants!!!! They suggested we add them to the quac for a little crunch!
So we wrap up today’s post with the perfect ending to a meal – the chocolate shake with a donut and fresh whipping cream. The chocolate shake has a touch of cinnamon added, but the strawberry has no other flavors added. The donut was fine, but most of us simply scraped the yummy whipping cream off into the shake instead. I’ve not got a picture, but I have to say some of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten is here at the resort. Not at all what you would expect!
So as promised, here is a picture of the guys’ catch today in South Dakota. Pool Boy said it was a slow day with wind, but the weather is promising to be better tomorrow with lighter breezes. From the smiles on their faces though, they don’t seem to care!
Final Thoughts….
I know there is little here that is papercraft related, but I want to share some of this wonderful trip with you as well. Next time I’ll be back to show our gifts, as well as our prizes from the daily spins. Stampin’ Up has a hospitality room available for snacks, some new product coming to the online exclusive lines (and it’s a mega suite to start preparing for Christmas!), as well as all of the card and 3D swaps displayed. Tomorrow is also our final event before the busses load up for the drive to the airport Saturday morning.
Posting during the new few days may be a challenge based on time factors, traveling, etc. but I still have things to share, so I hope you will keep an eye out for my next post, and until then God Bless!
