When Stampin’ Up unveiled the Color Refresh for the new annual catalog we knew we would be losing colors we have crafted with for years, and in their place would be new tones. When that happens we have to get a sense of how the colors work with our remaining shades. How do they compare with each other???? Do they blend and have a pleasant contrast, or do they clash???? Which color is lighter, which color is richer in hue??? In essence, you just have to play!!!! So that’s exactly what I did – play with our NEW CORE COLORS from the Color Refresh!
Comparing Our Pinks!
I know – your first thought is “where is Petal Pink???” I tried to start with it, but it is so “peachy” to me I couldn’t use it here. I moved it to another family, and chose to work with Bubble Bath, Berry Burst, and Melon Mambo. I will say my Bubble Bath was extremely light and I debated about re-inking which seems wrong for a brand new ink pad, so I used it as is. Since stamping these last week I’ve read several others who felt they needed to re-ink as well so I’m hoping it will be a bit brighter after I do so. Remember, on vacation here so I could only bring so much stuff – Pool Boy would have balked at me loading down the truck with stamping supplies!!! Berry Burst could almost move into the purple family when you compare with Melon Mambo beside it. This stamp set is the Two – Tone Flora which is a BEAUTIFUL floral image!!
Looking At The Blue Green Shades!!
I LOVE this collection of shades!!! Of course, Pool Party is a great contrast to the brighter tones of Coastal Cabana, but Lost Lagoon is equally striking with Pretty Peacock! Stampin’ Up is very rich in both blue and green tones as you will see when I share them tomorrow. I would like to use the PLP combination for a monochromatic card – Pool Party, Lost Lagoon, Pretty Peacock – I think these three together would be awesome!

I love how you have compared the colors to each other. I love making cards for friends and family, and I’ll teach whoever wants to learn about Stamping… But I feel I am really held back because I can’t seem to see what colors go with what! This is where I loved how you compared the berry burst color with his peers and the pretty peacock color with its peers! Do you have a place where you share all the colors? When Stamp’in Up moves them into different groups, I really get confused!

Hey Pat!! Thank you for your comment! This week I’ve been sharing our new colors with our returning shades so be sure to check out Thursday’ post with the blues and browns. I find it works best for me to see all of our like shades stamped side by side for a good comparision but also to see possible color combinations! You might try stamping your inks in this manner as well to help with putting color combinations together. I am also interested in your email – Piano lady! As a retired elementary music teacher we have lots in common. I’ve been a church organist for almost 50 years since I started studying when I was 14 and majored with an organ emphasis in college.
