Gosh, I’m moving way slow this morning, and I’m going to pay for it since I have to be at an appt. in less than an hour and I’m still in pj’s!!!! Gonna have to put this into fast gear and make today’s post short and sweet!
This week we’ve been focusing on the sketches that are found on the bottom of page 22 in our Annual Catalog. These sketches are there to give you some inspiration, some direction you might say. They are NOT meant to be copied shape by shape! They are simply a great way to start a paper project with some inspiration. In our group FB page we have a contest right now, and the only way to enter is to post a card using one of the designs. We have some great card ideas popping up and I’m excited to see people participating!!

My card today uses sketch #20, with some changes along the way. In the catalog #20 is vertical, mine is horizontal. By turning it horizontal my label went from the top left corner to the bottom left corner. Instead of a square as a focal point of the card, I chose to make it a rectangle.
But there are several things in this card that has pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Number one thing – I HARDLY EVER make my DSP the full card front!!! Remember, I stress to not cut your DSP wider than 4 inches so you can get the maximum number of mats from that 12 x 12 sheet??? Well, mine is 4.25 inches so already I’m thinking “what a waste of this beautiful DSP!” BUT, I do believe having no mat behind this DSP is eye-catching.
Next, I struggle with 6 x 6 inch DSP because to maximize it you either have to cut it in 2 inch strips OR 3 x 3 inch squares. Basically I wasted the whole piece of paper to get this rectangle! There are no die cuts or punches or ribbons used on this card – and these are all staples in my papercrafting.
What is my thing is the silver foil mat behind the winter scene. This mat enhances the silver branches in the larger DSP, and I simply cut a thin strip of silver foil to go behind my simple greeting. You can never go wrong adding silver or gold foil to your card creations!!
It’s a simple card but stunning, don’t you agree??
I’ll be back tomorrow to share some of the cards created by others using the sketches. If you have not studied this page, go back and give it a second look. Sometimes we simply need a starting point, and sketches are the easiest way to do just that!
Until next time, have a great day, keep stamping, keep crafting, and God Bless!!!
