Forgive me for saying nothing today about stamping, paper crafting, Stampin’ Up, etc.
We’ve had an incredibly busy week, and the reward is a quick trip to see our daughter’s family in St. Louis. Nora is performing in a local summer repertory theatre as a cast member for the opera Carmen. Opera may well not be many people’s choice, but with a word of encouragement from her elementary music teacher, Nora wanted to give it a try. In the cast, she is one of the town orphans and she’s on the front row in the photo above wearing the white dress. It’s been a challenge since it’s written entirely in French, there have been some very long rehearsals and performances for the kids, and then some very long breaks sitting in a back room waiting for their next curtain call. AND it’s been a challenge for her parents attending the rehearsals, helping to over see those long breaks in the back room, and simply keeping the family structure going with the day to day needs.
Going on my soap box here, BUT take a look at those kids. There are 3 girls and 5 boys. Let me stress that again – there are 3 girls and FIVE BOYS!!!!! You would expect there to be more girls interested in the opera cast versus the boys, wouldn’t you?? The fact that the opera is all about bullfighting is a great hook to interest a boy. As a teacher of Fine Arts, I love seeing these kids so in character and enjoying this opportunity. That’s the thing about Fine Arts — no score board is lit up, no one is sitting on a bench, and no goes home a loser. Everyone is participating and EVERYONE will go home a winner. What a wonderful opportunity for these kids, and Nora has already informed her mom she would like to audition next year if possible.
I’ll be back Sunday with a new post! Until then, have a wonderful weekend, find time to create and craft, and God Bless!
