My dear friend Johnna Bixenman Clarke is a life long fan of TAGS – aka The Andy Griffith Show. She is such a fan, she gathered a group of friends who share this love and they banded together by creating an official fan club under the title of Blood Brothers. The 1,399th one to be exact! There is even a group of ladies who gather occasionally at my home to make greeting cards under the title of the Mayberry Card Guild.
Johnna planned for months to bring Randy Turner, an author and expert of TAGS to our area of northeast Missouri for a series of dinners, presentations, and opportunities for Randy to share his knowledge. Unfortunately, COVID hit and plans had to change, multiple times. Just recently Johnna’s preparations finally paid off with an incredible week of events to share her love with the surrounding communities.
Always the planner, Johnna asked me to come up with something to to commemorate Randy’s visit. I love to create home decor pieces with my paper crafting so what better than a camping scene with campfire to represent the chapter?
Stamping Details:
Using the stamp sets Campology and Mountain Air, I began with a piece of Basic White, measuring 8.5 inches square. The Blending Brushes layered the background colors of Misty Moonlight, Pool Party, Night of Navy, Crumb Cake, and Mossy Meadow.
After the basic background colors were established, I tore strips of Crumb Cake card stock for the shore banks of the lake, then added stamped texture with Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Gray Granite, and Craft White inks. Next, I added die cut trees and mountains out of Evening Evergreen and Mossy Meadow. Scribbling Smoky Slate on Basic White scraps before die cutting the clouds gave the impression of shadows and highlights.
If you have never tackled a home decor piece with your stamps and dies you need to do so!! A trip to Michaels or Hobby Lobby should be first on your list for a frame so you have the exact measurements to begin with. And keep a Stampin Up catalog handy! You never know when you might need to look for a stamped image or die for layering and it’s much easier to do so thumbing through your catalog versus going through all of your supplies!
One regret –
I was honored to create the gift for Randy Turner, but I have one regret. I should have made two gifts because Johnna deserved one for all of her hard work in organizing the special week. Until next time, keep stamping, keep crafting, and God Bless. And in the words of Andy Griffith, now go out there and act like somebody!
