One of the new items in the annual catalog for novice stampers is actually a return of an old favorite for more experienced stampers. When the Soft Pastel assortment returned to the catalog they took on a new look in shape and color, but the fun and creativity remain the same!
Soft Pastels Return to the Annual Catalog!
The original shape of the pastels years ago were small squares and you used your sponges or a small brush to pick up the color. This new addition is rectangular cubes which makes handling easier. The updated color palette includes Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, and Poppy Parade,
Using and Applying the Soft Pastels
I created the card above using 5 shades of the pastels – Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Mossy Meadow, Coastal Cabana, and Granny Apple Green. To mix the chalk to create different shades, I shaved the sticks with a paring knife into bowls depending on the tones I wanted. Then using a sponge dauber, I mixed the shavings in the bowl and adjusted colors as needed. I tapped Versa Mark on small sections of the foliage then added the chalk to the embossed areas.

So many times we simply HAVE TO HAVE the new products introduced in a catalog, only to put them on a shelf and leave them. Get them out people!!! Open, play, and if nothing else, GOOGLE to find out how to use! Remember the joy of playing with new mediums in elementary art classes?? This is the same thing! Until next time, keep stamping, keep crafting, and God Bless!
