Hello from Slidell! We woke up to dense fog this morning for our drive into downtown New Orleans. The first stop – breakfast, then on to Mardi Gras World -the educational part of our trip. Well, let’s just get the bad out of the way right now, cause after all the prep I did online with checking their calendar, purchasing tickets for this day, and trying to figure out parking so the trip ran smoothly I’m afraid I was abit vocal when I saw the sign on the doors saying “CLOSED FROM FRIDAY THRU MONDAY, Feb. 7-10.” Umm, hello – tickets purchased!!!! Calendar said it would be open for tours. If this was the way the trip was going to be, not good.

But then again, everything is better when you add food to the mix, right????? If you travel to New Orleans be sure to visit Cafe Du Monde for the huge, warm beignets with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar poured on top. Hello, hot fried sweet bread with powdered sugar – hard to be that combo!

And if you know me well, you know I have no problem chatting and visiting with strangers. Above is Chrissy from the UK currently on a SEVEN WEEK CRUISE!! It just so happened that the ship docked in New Orleans the same time as the Super Bowl festivities, and she was so excited to visit with CHIEF FANS! NFL fans from all over come to the Super Bowl festivities, and they wear their shirts/jerseys with pride even though their season was so bad they have the #1 draft pick. Even though Chrissy isn’t a football fan she knew enough about Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs and she’s hoping she will be able to watch the game when the ship docks in Miami.

If you’ve been to New Orleans then you know that food is an important part of the culture. We stopped and had lunch at one of our favorite restaurants – Joey K’s. Very eclectic, with such a wide and varied menu with something for everyone.

Pool Boy and Brenda both had the chicken fried steak, while I went with a bowl of red beans and rice – one of my favorites.

And I had to take a pic of this sign hanging on the wall – sporting the Chiefs’ colors, and it reminded me of the Snickers commercial with Andy Reid and the endzone for the CHEFS. Remember that one???

Tomorrow’s festivities – we hope!!! – include being on Decatur St. for the NFL Mardi Gras parade. We scoped out the route, possible parking, and have chairs and folding wagon in the truck to be on the sidelines to watch.
So, even though the day started with fog and disappointment for Mardi Gras World, it ended in smiles, new friends, and good food – the best combination!!!! Until tomorrow, have a great day and God Bless!
