In just a few hours my years of teaching will come to an end. I spent yesterday morning cleaning out my room and gathering what few personal supplies I wanted to bring home. I loved teaching elementary music all of those years to my kids, but it was speech that was my saving grace! I was so thankful to have that opportunity because I was close to burn out and needed a change desperately. Half day speech implementer was the answer and I was so very thankful to have a second classroom where there was NO PIANO! After retiring in 2013 from teaching full time, I was thrilled to return to school to teach speech part time, never dreaming I would continue for 9 more years. It was the perfect part-time job because they allowed me the flexibility to pick my days and adjust as I needed to with our personal schedule. The past two years I filled a critical shortage spot and taught 4 days a week, and looking back that was too much. But we survived! Jim did most of the cooking and holding down the home front, running the bigshot for me, and making deliveries/pick ups as needed to keep my Stampin’ Up business going as well. He is is my rock, my diamond in the rough, and I am so very blessed to have him by my side.
Enough! Let’s Talk Stamping!!!!
I decided to CASE the catalog last night and found myself looking at the Sending Smiles stamp set – either page 14 or 16. At the top in the photo there is a card similar to this one on Orchid Oasis. I switched it up to Tahitian Tide, and used the Pretty Flowers Embossing folder for the background. By lightly tapping my ink pad on the side that I wanted darker, carefully adding my paper and closing the folder before running through the die cut machine, I was able to get this GORGEOUS inked image recessed into the paper! SO EASY and so easy to clean as well!!
The flowers are all from the Sending Smiles bundle, using Polished Pink, Orchid Oasis, Mango Melody, and Tahitian Tide (which was stamped off first to get the lighter tone). I used the decorative circle punch, and added a layer of vellum die cut with the Stylish Shapes. For the bow, I unraveled some of the strands of the Baker’s Twine in the 2022-24 Baker’s Twine Essential pack for a softer look.

My FAVORITE SPEECH STORY…..
I’ve heard many things in the speech room from the little ones I taught, but without a doubt my favorite story was one involving a little boy named Landon. He was there with a sweet little girl named Hadley and they were working on /s-blends/ words. He did NOT want to be there to work, so was rolling his eyes and in a droll manner repeating the words as I flipped cards – SNowman, SPonge, SMile, SLeeping, etc.
When I turned the card of a tarantula, Landon’s eyes got big and round, he popped up in his chair and shouted *THAT’TH A BIG ATH THPIDER!!!!” Now if you can’t read “Speecheze” go back and substitute /s/ for /th/. Sweet little Hadley looked at me and shook her her, and said so seriously ” He didn’t say his /s/ right.” No Hadley, he did not and if that’s what you got out of his sentence we are GOOD! LOL.
Thank You Lord for calling me to teach! Have a great day everyone and God Bless!
