The winter weather is heading our way for the next few days, along with large portions of the country. We woke up to a dusting of white and the call is for inches by the time it ends Tuesday, and still another potential storm is heading our way next weekend. Welcome to January!!!! Call me weird, but I’ve always liked January and February. There’s nothing better than being tucked up in your homes with a good book and fuzzy blanket enjoying some down time while the snow falls. While winter is going outside, I can use this time to get caught up on projects that have been set aside during the holidays.
Service Project #1 – A Gift For Breast Cancer Patients
First project on the to-do list: packaging the 500 notecards and envelopes for an area cancer treatment center to distribute to breast cancer patients. During Christmas break I posted about the 500 cards that I had stamped, using a positioning tool, the packaged notecards/envelopes from Stampin Up, and the chub for my hand. I called in a couple of dear friends who made short work for counting and packaging the prestamped cards. Lunch first, stop by McD’s for diet cokes (and if you are a diet coke fan you already KNOW that McD’s diet coke is THE BEST!) then folding, counting, and packaging while we caught up visiting.
Gathering with friends makes short work of what could be a time consuming job for one person. In less than 2 hours we had everything accomplished and still had time to visit – and fyi – Pool Boy was right there in the visiting part!!! Each package has 10 cards/envelopes (2 of 5 different designs) and sealed in a cellophane bag with a topper that keeps everything protected and together. (I do cut our bags down from 8 inches to 7 inches because I prefer them shorter.) There are so many people who help patients undergoing treatments – by driving, taking a meal, or showing support in multiple ways – so having simple thank you cards on hand makes it easy to send a message of gratitude.
All of the cards are stamped in shades of pink with a simple floral image and greeting. Nothing fancy, but created with love as a way to bless others. Such an easy way to use papercrafting and creativity for others. Because you see, crafting feeds our creativity, but service feeds our soul. Why not combine the two?????
Stay safe my friends as winter arrives in your area, find some time to craft, some time to serve others, and stay warm!!!! Until next time, God Bless!!!
