The Ever-Popular Orange Red Begonia!

For the past couple of years I’ve given up my flower pot fetish. With all the travelling Pool Boy and I have done, I would have been looking for someone every few weeks to take charge of the containers of flowers on our deck, and other areas spread throughout the yard. And unless I found someone who was into horticulture, I’m pretty sure every trip I’d be finding someone new because the other person wouldn’t want to repeat! It would take close to an hour to water everything properly, and with the heat wave we’ve been experiencing, a second watering late in the afternoon might have been needed. So, I just ignore the empty pots on my deck, at the front door, and surrounding area. Maybe next year we will stay home longer to water and care for the plants, but as long as we can go, we will.

So when it came to picking flowers, there were certain ones I steered far from. Wave petunias – not my thing! My mom could grow then in driveway asphalt cracks – no joke here!!! Seriously, you had to be careful where you parked so you didn’t disturb the self-seeding wave petunias that popped up anywhere. Geraniums – again, not my thing!!! I love beautiful geraniums BUT mine were NOT beautiful! I think I babied them too much, and they looked pathetic. And marigolds and begonias – those were old lady flowers.

I’m sad to say that I’ve become that old lady because my marigolds and begonias looked great! The brighter the colors, the more showy the presentation. So, how could we create a begonia card without using Poppy Parade and Peaceful Pine for the color combo????

Got to be truthful here. Never thought about pairing these colors together until looking through the new Christmas DSP heading our way. The Timeless Christmas DSP uses Poppy Parade and Peaceful Pine in the color combination, and we have some fun prints heading our way. BUT instead of using one of the new DSP’s I turned to the Stitched Tradition DSP for the Peaceful Pine plaid pattern as the background. I bordered the white floral mat with a simple Poppy Parade border cut with the Bordered in Beauty dies, then added a couple of butterflies from the same bundle to create the card above.

And I want you to note – NO DIMENSIONALS WERE USED IN THIS CREATION! That is pretty amazing for me, cause I do love those dimensionals!

Final Thoughts…

It’s been a busy week with VBS and having Cal every afternoon, but he’s been so easy to care for. Today is our final day and he’s already told me he’s going to VBS with me again next year. Then he proceeded to tell me he will be back to stay with us next week! I’m afraid he’ll be in for a rude awakening because we will be gone to the Dells with the girls. Hope he forgets by Monday when he heads back to daycare!
