Years ago at a teacher in-service we discovered our Kolbe Index Scores. The whole premise behind these scores was to see how much structure and processes a person needs to get from point A to point B. The four Kolbe types are FACT FINDER, FOLLOW THRU, QUICKSTART, and IMPLEMENTOR and in professional work life you want people representing all 4 groups interacting within the team. Long story short, I was pretty much even as a fact finder, follow thru, and implementor but my quickstart score was WAY LOW! My friend Ginger was the exact opposite – almost all quickstart, and the other three bottomed out. Totally explained why she and I butted heads all the time on committees!
So why am I bringing this up????? Our trip to the Super Bowl was basically spontaneous – we had 48 hours to agree to take the tickets. A quickstart would have JUMPED IN head first without any thought. I on the other hand had 48 hours to PLAN, to SCHEDULE, to IMPLEMENT how we were going to get this accomplished. I cancelled classes and rescheduled them, I scheduled a new one for our return, I had our returned weekends planned to see kids and attend a women’s church retreat, I had our trip and my craft work mapped out and I had it COVERED!!!! I WAS ON IT!!!
Then Pool Boy Jim gets sick. Cancel the visit with the kids, cancel Grandma The Great getting to meet Baby Calvin, (Jim’s mom prefers this over Great Grandma!), cancel out of the women’s retreat to reschedule the kids’ visits, and the work schedule for stamping events is totally derailed. I’ve lost all control!!!
One Thing NOT RESCHEDULED! Our Spring Retreat Cut Off Date!
The LAST DAY to sign up for our Spring Retreat is Monday, the 20th! We have reached our maximum count for in person, BUT we continue to take spots for the VIRTUAL group. Please note that you will need the Garden Birdhouses Stamp Set, and we will be using the colors listed above in blends. Any add-on orders will also need to be placed no later than the 20th as well. All make and takes will be demonstrated by video on a private FB group so you can craft when it fits your schedule!
Final Thoughts…
I’ve never been good with spontaneity – I’m generally too structured. I prefer everything lined up versus haphazard. But looking back I’m so glad I was able to get past the planning stages and simply say yes to the trip before ironing out the details. I need a bit more spontaneous flow in my life and I am hoping to let that happen this year. We ARE retired!
But know this – if Ginger and I had to assemble model car kits in a competition, mine would be the exact replica, and hers would be a creative, mixed-up jumble. She would call mine boring, I would call hers a hot mess!!!!!
Love ya Ginger!!!! Until next time, keep stamping, keep crafting, and God Bless!
