We are home and my Adobe program is working, and we are BACK online! We had a wonderful time with our girls, and they’ve requested going back to Wisconsin next year. As busy as we were, there were still things we didn’t have time to do. It’s nice though to be home, and the construction project is completed and all that’s left is some touch up painting, so by the end of the week everything will be back in place.
I have to tell you, I have a thing for plaids, stripes, and polka dot DSP. I don’t like “gigantic, in your face patterns” though. I prefer the smaller checks, the more narrow stripes, and small dots, and if one of our papers have those – I buy it. All three patterns can be used for any occasion, any recipient, for cards or home decor. So when I needed a project for Stamp ‘n Sip this month, I knew I would be turning to the Peaceful Pine patterns in the 2026-2028 In Color Gingham Gallery package.
There are two different sides to the plaid, and although I prefer the reverse side, I purposely chose this one for display. I’ll make a second one later today with the other side so the gals can see them both finished. Sometimes it’s hard to decide by just laying things out, isn’t it? The smaller rectangle in the middle is from the Stitched Traditions DSP, and I used it for the watermelon rind pieces as well.
My color combo was Strawberry Slush and Peaceful Pine, and to add more texture to the fruit flesh I pounced Strawberry Slush ink with sponge daubers all over the die cut. We used the Stylish Shape dies, the Everyday Arches, and added the slim edge cut with Border In Beauty dies. And I cheated, because I wanted some vines, and there on my retired pile lay the pumpkin set from last year – but they give it a great finish, right??? Hardest part of the project – cutting seeds by hand!!!
For the letters, I started with a piece of white card stock glued to an adhesive sheet. Before cutting the letters, I used the Strawberry Slush and Peaceful Pine inks to pounce ink on the white with the dauber. Be sure to leave a small section white!
Afterwards, I cut my letters, then I added a bit more color at the top and the bottom, to give both an ombre effect and the look of being cut right out of the melon!
