Man, the past two weeks have been loaded with Christmas decorations, family visiting, church services and activities, and our final stamping event for November. We are cruising into Thanksgiving week and other than fixing dinner on Thursday for our son Evan and his family, we are going to have a laid back week. I always look forward to fixing Thanksgiving dinner because it reminds me so much of my mom. She was such a good cook, and when she rolled out the Thanksgiving dinner she rarely veered off course. Her menu always consisted of turkey and corbread dressing (she never called it stuffing!), mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, gravy, green beans, noodles, cranberry relish, hot rolls, a relish tray, pumkin pie, cherry pie, and chocolate cake. ONCE she forgot to make the noodles and her oldest grandsons were quick to take notice, and every so often she would add another pie like mincemeat or baked pineapple, but otherwise you could bank on her menu the same from year to year.
By the time you tried alittle of everything – and a bit more of your favorites – your plate was overflowing. Everything was made from scratch and made with love. To this day, I hold true to her menu EXCEPT the desserts. Our desserts will be pumpkin cake, pecan pie, and chocolate pie. All of this for 4 adults and two babies!!! BUT it’s the tradition AND since we all love the Thanksgiving leftovers, it wouldn’t be the same without!!!
Two Of Our Retreat Cards Using Thoughtful Journey!
We papercrafters LOVE to load our cards up with detailed dies, punches, colored floral images, etc . BUT truly allowing the DSP to shine creates some of the prettiest cards of all!! In the photo above I shared two very easy cards to duplicate with simply embossing the cardstock mat – I used the fern for the Night of Navy card, the Distressed Tile for the Blackberry Bliss one – and simply added a greeting on the DSP or a simple label. Embellish with the gold thread and gems and you have a beautiful card that takes less than 15 minutes to create.
This is our 4th or 5th package of watercolor patterns from Stampin’ Up and I believe they are the favorite DSP’s from each catalog. Stunning images and color combinations that lend themselves to SO MANY designs! I love to see how far I can stretch one package to create the maximum number of cards possible. I believe me highest number was over 60 cards by strategically cutting the DSP.
Final Thoughts….
So, come Thanksgiving day you will find the same dishes ready to add to our plates, although not all homemade. We’ve made the homemade noodles before, but as far as we are concerned Reame’s noodles are the same, and I’ve ordered our hot rolls from a local artisan sourdough micro-bakery. My pecan pie crust will be a frozen shell because I’ve not got the patience to roll the dough. But as for the chocolate pie —– go online and look for the Pioneer Woman’s chocolate pie!!!! OMG!!!!! You will NEVER make chocolate pie from a box again!!!
So, this week, let’s push our papercrafting and creating off to the side A LITTLE BIT and create some Thanksgiving memories instead! Until tomorrow, have a great day, plan out some tasty dishes, and God Bless!
