CASE – Copy And Share Everything!!!! This is papercrafting at it’s finest! Did you know that it’s OK to take someone else’s idea and use it in papercrafting? AS LONG as you give credit where credit is due! Today’s post is centered around CASE-ing.
Growing up we were encouraged to “use your own words” when writing, don’t copy! Copying is bad – it’s plagiarizing. I remember writing my research paper in high school and all the footnotes and references we had to include when typing. Throw in the whole typewriters, correction tape, carbon paper – ugh. Not fun. Thank goodness for computers, word processing programs, and copy and paste!
But in crafting, it’s acceptable to use ideas from others to help us create. Maybe you want to copy it exactly, or maybe you just like the layout and you want to use for your project. Change up colors, change of DSP, etc – these are all ways to CASE.
Last night on our group page Stamp. Ink. Paper – Creating With Pam and Lola we shared ideas built on CASE-ing. Pam selected to use the Spendid Autumn Suite found in the Holiday Mini Catalog. She loved the cards found on page 36, so she wanted to recreate a couple of them to show the beauty of this suite – DSP, Stamps, and Dies. This set of dies is very intricate and detailed, AND versatile as well!
I know both Pam and I feel like we skip the photos of samples in the catalogs and simply focus on the products themselves. Do you do the same???? Those samples are there to show you the possibilities of the product, and we SHOULD use the catalog as a springboard in our crafting!
My CASE-ing is different because I CASEd a stamper, not the catalog. Last week Mary Fish with StampinPretty.com posted an adorable Halloween card using the Cutest Cow bundle. Tonight I have a meeting and I needed a 3D item to share, and a couple of weeks ago I found the mini Cow Tail candies at Dollar Tree. (Thanks Arla for sharing with me!) I was thinking the cow bundle would be cute with the candy, BUT when I saw Mary Fish’s take of the Halloween card, I decided to use on my candy holder above!
Final Thoughts…..
As crafters we do NOT have to sit there starring at a product trying to get an idea to pop! Google search other crafters, check out the catalog, search FB for ideas —– all are acceptable, appropriate, and ok!! So go ahead – CASE AWAY but give credit where credit is due! Be sure to go and look for Mary Fish’s cow card – it’s adorable!! Check those pictures in the catalogs as well for inspiration!!! Until next time, have a great day crafting, creating, CASE-ing, and God Bless!
